It was 25°F. I had to use glycerin in the water to keep it from freezing to the paper. And I didn't care. Just being able to be in this landscape along the Bitterroot River in Montana was heaven to me. This photo says it all. I love to paint landscapes in person.
To me, each landscape has a voice and is singing a special song that day. I try to capture that song with my brush or my pencil. I love to sketch the critters that live there as well, even if I don't always see them in person.
I paint in watercolor, mixed media, and oil. I use bold shapes, color and texture along with a contemporary style. Each medium brings out a different quality in a landscape, so I change media to match the landscape. Others drive or walk by landscapes, but painters embrace them.
